Tele-medicine is computer and video technology which enables Irish
doctors to collaborate with Albania doctors, to see Albanian patients from
the offices of Irish Friends of Albania in Galway and to help with their
diagnosis and treatment.
This link is housed in our office in Galway on the Irish side and in the
Mother Theresa University Hospital on the Albanian side.
The medical software installed in the systems enables doctors to exchange all types of medical information (scans, photos, pathology slides etc.).
The equipment also enables Irish lecturers to give lectures to groups of Albanian doctors, nurses and students.
We are grateful to:
- Irish Aid for their support through our 3 year funding programmne
- former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds and the ‘Children for Children and Adult
Care Foundation’ for all their support in the purchase and installation of
the system.
- our suppliers Second Opinion
www.2opinion.com .
The link was launched in 2007 by Mr. Reynolds and by Minister of State with responsibility for Overseas Development Mr Michael Kitt.
Albert Reynolds has pioneered the use of Tele-medicine in Ireland over the past few years through the “Children for Children and Adult Care Foundation”, which has assisted Irish hospitals in developing modern tele-medicine facilities. Mr. Reynolds commented that Albania gave the world Mother Theresa who had strong ties with Ireland. It was therefore appropriate that Ireland further cement their ties to Albania and particularly in the form of healthcare and caring for others.
