Albania has entered the COVID-19 lockdown since 13 March. According to government emergency law,  people and cars may only travel between 5 am until 1 pm from Monday to Friday. Essential activities are also limited only to these designated hours.

As of May 1st, 2020, there are 782 infected people and 31 deaths. The state has a limited budget, human resources, and medical supplies to address the situation related to COVID-19, but recently a fund from the EU and donations from other countries have been dedicated to COVID-19 response.

The Chairman of Irish Friends of Albania, Mr. Jack McCann a well-known lecturer and plastic surgeon, had well planned his continuous support for the Albanian doctors, training them in the field of Microsurgery.

These training visits were due to take place in spring and summer 2020, but due to the COVID-19 situation and the strong restrictions that are put in place, he hopes that these training sessions will take place before the end of 2020.
